Handpan FAQ: All Your Questions, Our Answers

According to buying guides published in 2025-2026, a quality handmade handpan usually costs between €1,200 and €2,500 new; the most sought-after makers go above €3,000. Below €500, tuning is rarely stable. Enixpan handpans range from €1,590 to €2,890 depending on the model, with free delivery, duties and taxes included, a protective bag and a padded transport cover. What that price actually covers is explained in our handpan price guide.

Every handpan is made to order: allow about 30 days between payment and delivery, i.e. roughly 15 days of making followed by roughly 15 days in transit. A tracking number is emailed to you when it ships. Delivery is free and DDP: customs duties and taxes are included, so there is nothing to pay on arrival.

440Hz is the international standard pitch, used by virtually all musical instruments worldwide. It is ideal if you wish to play with other musicians or record in a studio. 432Hz is an alternative tuning, 8Hz lower, reputed for its warmer and more enveloping sound. It is very popular for meditation, yoga and sound healing. To compare both in real time, use our interactive tester — free, no sign-up needed.

Handpan maintenance is simple but regular. After each playing session, wipe the instrument with a dry microfibre cloth to remove sweat and fingerprints. Once a month (or more frequently in high humidity), oil the entire surface with virgin coconut oil or Phoenix brake oil. Always store your handpan in its case when not in use. Avoid very humid areas and extreme temperature variations. For a detailed guide, consult our complete maintenance guide.

Yes, absolutely. The handpan is one of the rare instruments that lends itself naturally to self-teaching. Its diatonic structure means that every note harmonises with the others, allowing free improvisation from the very first minutes. Many resources exist for learning alone: YouTube tutorials, online courses, Facebook communities. However, one or two sessions with a teacher at the beginning can be very valuable for correcting posture and playing habits. Before buying, use our interactive tester to familiarise yourself with the scales.

At Enixpan, we want you to be fully satisfied with your purchase. If your handpan does not suit you upon receipt, you have 14 calendar days to return it in its original packaging, in perfect condition, in accordance with European regulations on the right of withdrawal. The refund is processed within 14 days of receiving the return. Return shipping costs are borne by the customer unless there is a defect in the instrument. Yes! The handpan is one of the most accessible instruments for absolute beginners. You don't need to be able to read music or have any prior musical knowledge. Its diatonic structure ensures that all notes sound well together, allowing natural improvisation from the very first minutes. That said, like any instrument, it offers considerable musical depth for players who wish to progress — the possibilities are practically endless. The D Kurd scale is particularly recommended for beginners.

The Enixpan tester is a unique interactive tool that lets you play the notes of each handpan scale directly in your browser, without any download or registration. You can click or tap each note, choose your scale from the available options, and switch between 440Hz and 432Hz in real time. The sounds used are real recordings of our handpans, guaranteeing a faithful representation of what you will hear with your instrument. It's the best way to choose your scale before buying. Accessible on desktop and mobile.

Enixpan handpans are made from nitrided steel by our partner workshop, tuned by hand and checked note by note before shipping: pitch, sustain, absence of unwanted buzzing and finish. Each instrument comes with a protective bag and a padded transport cover, a care guide and access to the learning platform. You have 14 days after delivery to withdraw from the purchase (see returns).

A standard handpan measures approximately 53 cm in diameter with a height of approximately 22 to 24 cm. Its weight is generally between 3 and 4 kg, making it easy to transport. With its protective bag and transport cover, the total weight is approximately 4 to 5 kg. These relatively compact dimensions allow easy travel by train or car with the instrument. For air travel, we recommend contacting the airline to check the rules for transporting musical instruments before departure.

If you wish to give one as a gift, we recommend choosing the D Kurd scale which suits all profiles, or contacting our team to help identify the most suitable scale for the recipient. We also offer a gift wrapping and personalised card service on request. The online tester is an excellent way to introduce the instrument to the recipient before ordering.
